European, Italy, 19th to 20th century. A lovely Grand Tour painting comprised of various visual vignettes - a goose and a fruit bowl; a rooster gazing upon two clusters of grapes; a leafy botanical; an architectural frieze featuring a golden sphinx. Grand Tour paintings were inspired by the Greco-Roman world, especially in light of excavations at Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Tivoli. Northern Europeans as well as American aristocrats visited Italy and France to complete their classical education and oftentimes acquired works of art as souvenirs of their Grand Tour. Size (sight view): 8" L x 6.25" W (20.3 cm x 15.9 cm) Size (frame): 15.125" L x 13.4" W (38.4 cm x 34 cm)
Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982

Condition
Painting is mounted behind glass in a custom frame. It has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in overall excellent condition. Minor scuffs to frame but otherwise frame is excellent as well and fit with suspension wire.
