Description
U.S. Indian Wars Era Cased Surgeon's Field Kit Made by Shepard & Dudley, New York. Magnificent cased set of surgeon's instruments housed in a velvet-lined, fitted wooden case measuring 15 ½" x 5 ½" x 3". The case has brass corners, hinges and lock and with an inset brass escutcheon on the top lid with an illegible doctor's name engraved on it. The case contains about 15 different instruments including a saw, tourniquet, and various knives, picks, tweezers, etc. all marked "Shepard & Dudley". With the exception of one minor crack in the case lid and some tarnishing to the instruments, the kit is in excellent condition and is a most handsome example.
