Late 19th century, with a partially torn old paper tag attached: ''Schondorf / Collection / Sioux / B42*65…'', constructed of a head piece with triangular ear flaps and round eye holes, sewn to a neck piece; each piece fully beaded in red, dark blue, green and yellow on a white ground, the head piece decorated with American flags, crosses and pronged rectangle motifs, and with outlines to the eye holes, the neck piece decorated with three bands of conjoined diamonds and half-diamonds centering crosses, alternating with two bands of crosses, bisected by a central stripe, 46'' H x 27'' W, est: $12,000/16,000

Overall good condition. Dirt accumulation throughout. Scattered small areas of minor bead loss. Wear and breakage to hide ties. Three water stains to hide at one end of underside of neckpiece, measuring 4.5'' x 7'', 3.5'' x 2'' and 5.5'' x 1.75'', with corresponding discoloration and stiffness. Two small tears to hide along edges of head piece. Small fragments of red cloth attached to head and neck pieces. One half of head piece made of several pieces of hide stitched together, with undersides varying in color. The hide probably buffalo.
