c.1550-1600,by Christoph I Stantler of Munich and Passau, signed "ME FECIT STANTLER" (Stantler made me), with double ring guard and side flukes, faceted pommel, remnants of leather grip binding and studs on oak timber, dark brown/black patina to steel and pitting commensurate with age, l 177.8cm/70", weight 4.366 kgs/9pds 10ozs Note: Bearing or Parade swords were a late 16th Century development of the two handed fighting sword. They were carried at the front of a procession or parade as a sign of authority and rank.
