Description
A Chinese blue and white hexagonal baluster Vase, c.1700, painted in underglaze blue in Arita style with feng and peony, below a ruyi border, 41.5cm At first sight, this vase is a classic example of Arita porcelain of around 1700. However, more interestingly it was probrably ordered by the Dutch from the Hongs in Japanese style when Chinese porcelain production was coming on stream again after Jingdezhen was sacked and when it became economically viable to trade in mass-production pieces from China once more.
