A wonderful Roman marble relief depicting a potter's shop, c. 2nd Century AD, the potter is seen sitting at his wheel or low table attaching a handle to an amphora. Around him finished vessels and figure line the shelves and stands, the fine brickwork of his shop finely detailed and in the distance one sees a monumental building. Standing over the craftsman is either the owner of the shop or a customer, gazing intently at the work, his clothing finely detailed. This is a fabulous example of daily live at the height of the Roman Empire. 6 in x 4 in (15.2 x 10.2 cm). Rear of the piece exhibits either encrustation or the original wall adhesive.
