Confederate States 13 Star Third National Flag accompanied by Fonda Thomsen analysis report. Totally hand-stitched Third National Confederate Flag measuring 34" on the hoist and 49" on the fly. The 23 1/2" square blue wool canton has a 3" wide red wool cross appliqued to each side. Each cross has thirteen five pointed 3 1/4" white cotton stars appliqued to each cross. The white wool fly ends with a 10" wide vertical red wool bar. The leading edge has a 1" wide, white wool pole sleeve constructed of the same fabric as the fly. The flag is intact with minor holes throughout and three patches, two on the fly end and one at the top of the pole sleeve. The flag has heavy stains on the fly end of the canton and another at the fly end about the center of the flag. There two additional large stains at the bottom of the red bar. The stars are darkened from oxidation.
Accompanying the flag is a report from Ms. Fonda Thomsen who concludes that the flag is intact as originally constructed, with no alterations or additions and is consistent with documented flags of the Civil War period.
Also included is a report from Howard Michael Madaus who notes that the size of the flag is common for regimental colors, particularly in the western theater of the War.
It is framed to museum standards under Plexiglass and ready to display.
