Description
We are very pleased to offer this 1920s porcelain hand painted floral chocolate set by Hermann Ohme of Niedersalzbrunn, Silesia, Germany. Our lovely set a gorgeous pink floral theme, finished in hand applied & sprayed gilt highlights. The forms feature footed pot and cups, and we have 4 cup & saucer pair, as well as 2 extra cups. These were all finished at the Hermann Ohme professional decorating studio, and the base carries the crown / H O with Germany below, dating to between 1920 & 1923. Research consulted: Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present / by Robert Rontgen; Directory of European Porcelain / by Ludwig Danckert; Bohemian Decorated Porcelain / by Dr. James D Henderson; Marks & Monograms on European and Oriental Pottery & Porcelain (14th Revised Edition) / by Wm. Chaffers Porzellanfabrik Hermann Ohme was founded in 1882 at the town of Nieder-Salzbrunn (today Sczawienko), located in the former Waldenburg district (today Wałbrzych), which harbored his adjunct decorating studio. Hermann Ohme mainly produced quality full dinner sets which were available in two distinct types of porcelain. The Clear Glaze and Old Ivory wares were both made from the same quality of porcelain but the hand painted Old Ivory had the addition of a light ivory colored matte glaze. The clear glaze White ware blanks were welcomed worldwide, and were used by such fabled decorating studios as Pickard and Stouffer. In 1913 the company was owned by Hermann Ohme, E.M. Bauer and Hermann Ohme Jr. and together they made a fatal decision to concentrate solely on the export market. With all their eggs in one basket, the 1928 advent of the world financial collapse spelled doom for Ohme, whose company was forced to file for bankruptcy in 1930. *** pot measures: 9x6.25x10; cups measures: 3.5x2.75x2.75; saucers measures: 5.75x5.75x.75
