Tall Carved Chinese or Japanese Ivory Statue Fukurokuju Seven Lucky Gods God of Shou Longevity & Wisdom w Peach Sprig & Staff on Wood Plinth Base. It is interesting that you have here a Japanese deity, yet a Chinese character for longevity - Shou. This is possibly explained by the theory that the mythos of the character was adapted from older Chinese Taoist stories. Identified by his bulbous head and trademark staff, this depiction of Fukurokuju is an aged and beautifully carved piece.
