A Louis Vuitton trunk, circa 1885, the exterior of brown canvas with metal and wooden struts and rivets, faintly initialled in black to the lid, the interior lined with striped paper and with large printed LV trunk label numbered 22298, and bearing 289 Oxford St, Regent Circus, and Rue Scribe Paris addresses, on small wheels, carrying handles to the sides, 58 by 80 by 51cm; 23 by 37 1/2 by 20in The large trunk trade label was only used between 1885 and 1890.

Original brown finish on canvas is very worn on the lid but reasonably intact on the sides. Left side has a mildewed appearance. Black paint on metal edging struts is somewhat corroded/worn. Initialled in black on the lid ‘T.J.S’. Interior with red and white striped paper interior. Large crack to inside lid on left side and a finer crack on right side. 4 smaller trade labels to the base corners. Soiled, worn appearance.
