Description
Rhode Island Ship MedalsChoice Brass “Wreath” Type Rhode Island Ship Token

1778/1779, Rhode Island Ship Token, Struck in Brass, “Wreath Below Ship” Variety, Extremely Fine or better.
Betts 563, Breen 1141. Olive brown with hints of underlying golden-brass, even in wear with some areas of both glossy and slightly rough surfaces and having nice eye appeal and sharp details. The Wreath at bottom is particularly sharp and clear. A scarce and popular major type, the reverse shows British forces under Admiral Howe, fleeing Providence, Rhode Island under assault by the American Patriots in 1779. The British warship clearly flying a British flag. The current 2007 Guide Book lists a value for this major type of $2,000 in EF-40 and of $2,750 in AU-50.
