French Coinage IssuesImpressive 1720-A 1/3 Silver Ecu NGC Graded AU-50
1720-A, French Colonies, 1/3 Silver Ecu, Gadoury-306, NGC graded About Unicirculated-50.
This lovely coin is overstruck on another planchet with some of the undertype present, which appears to be of the “NAVARRE” type. The surfaces are smooth and hard being a rich silvery-gray with blue overtones, plus slightly deeper tones in the peripheries and having excellent glossy underlying luster. A really choice example of this scarcer type. The current 2007 Guide Book lists a value for this major type of $1,200 in EF-40 on page 50 and has no higher values listed.
