Christo and Jeanne-Claude
Christo (Christo Wladimirow Jawaschew) was born in Gabrowo, Bulgaria in 1935. He was married to Jeanne-Claude (born in Casablanca, 1935). The artist couple created works of art until Jeanne-Claude’s death in 2009. Christo’s art developed from the French Nouveau réalisme movement and Assemblage techniques. The couple gained international renown by their ‘veiling’ of buildings - notably the Reichstag in Berlin, 1995.
