This color serigraph on PVC foil was created by the Swiss painter Verena Loewensberg (1912-1986), who was a representative of the ‘Zürcher Schule der Konkreten’. Her image constructions follow the function of color, which appears as the basic principle in her works. By this type of representation Loewensberg overcomes the strict compositions in favor of an own rhythm, produced by the motifs.
The work is signed lower right ‘Loewensberg’, dated ‘73’and numbered ’35/200’. The colour serigraph by Verena Loewensberg (1912-1986) is in very good condition and has an overall measure within the framework of 64 x 104.5 cm. The work measures 40 x 80 cm. The frame is also in good condition.
Verena Loewensberg
Verena Loewensberg was born 1912 in Zurich and was representative of the Swiss art movement of painting, called ‘Zürcher Schule der Konkreten’. She studied at the arts college in Basel and had a few stays at the Academie Moderne in Paris. In 1936 she began designing her first concrete images, and contributes a year later the founding of the ‘allianz’, a community of modern artists in Zurich. Included in this community was also Max Bill, a life-long friend of Loewensberg. The artist was especially inspired in her works by Vantongerloo and Mondrian.
