Le Compt DeRochambeau (1725-1807) French General. Rochambeau played a major role in helping America win independence during the American Revolution. During this time, he served as commander-in-chief of the French Expeditionary Force which embarked from France in order to help the American Continental Army fight against British forces. In August 1781, Rochambeau joined Washington for the journey to Yorktown. Rochambeau, a veteran of 14 sieges in Europe, provided valuable expertise in the conducting of the siege at Yorktown. The success at Yorktown was very much a result of this expertise and his leadership skills. 5 ¾†x 1 ¾†(exposed) concluding portion of an autograph letter signed, double matted with a colored engraving and descriptive panel to 11†x 14â€.
