Ronald Reagan. In October 1989 Reagan made a controversial trip to Japan for which he was paid $2 million. The former First Couple flew to Japan in a specially equipped Boeing 747, complete with bedroom and shower. They shared the plane, although not the bedroom or the shower, with a retinue of 20 staffers, a dozen Secret Service agents and 229 U.S. military dependents invited along for a free ride to visit their relatives stationed in Japan. 6 ½” x 8 ½” typed letter signed, personal stationery, October 19, 1989 which was given to each of the guests accompanying the Reagans. “…Welcome aboard! Nancy and I are delighted that you could join us on our flight to Japan…we are happy that you are going to be reunited with those loved ones living abroad in service to our nation….”
