Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974) and Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) Aviation Pioneers. Lindbergh landed the single-seat, single-engine Ryan monoplane Spirit of St. Louis at Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, on May 21, 1927, thus becoming the first human to make a solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon, on July 21, 1969, having flown aboard Apollo 11. On September 27, 1969, two months after his historic “…giant leap for man-kind†Armstrong attended the thirteen awards banquet of The Society of Experimental Test Pilots at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California together with Lindbergh and several other aviators. A young girl attended the banquet with her parents and prevailed upon a reluctant Lindbergh to sign her mothers’ and her program. The program was also signed by Armstrong and fellow astronauts Deke Slayton (1924-1993) and James McDivitt (1929- ). 5 ½†x 8 ½â€, four-page, program from the banquet of The Society of Experimental Test Pilots, September 27, 1969 signed by Armstrong, Lindberg, Slayton and McDivitt and on other. There is slight brushing of the ink to the “A†in Lindbergh’s signature and there are tape stain in two corners, away from the signatures and a small water stain in the upper left which affects the fifth signature. Included with this program is a signed statement from our consignor, the girl who obtained these signatures forty-four years ago, detailing her recollection of the event. This item is her program, we had previously sold her mother’s. Given aviator Lindbergh’s reluctance to sign it is safe to assume this is the last pairing of these signatures from this event in existence.
