A dedicational drawing by the famous German performance artist John Bock, whose works are on display in important art collections, including the Boros Collection in Berlin

The present drawing is the work of John Bock, dating to 2011. It was directly made for the current owner. John Bock, active in the media of sculpture, installation, performance, object art, fashion and film, became apparent in 1998 with his performance ‘Heu in der Kaderwelle’ at the Berlin Biennial. In his well-known performances (‘lectures’), Bock acts on ‘stages’, which mostly consist of various wooden structures, clothing, electronic devices, and mathematical charts. On this ‘theatrical collages’, the artist performances alone or together with actors, and often uses a musical background. The present drawing is possibly connected with the development of one these installations.



The sheet is monogrammed and dated on the top, ‘JB 2011’. It is overall in good condition with slight handling marks and two distinct creases upper right. The sheet dimensions are 29.7 x 21 cm.


John Bock (b. 1965)

John Bock was born in Schleswig-Holstein in 1965. After studying business administration, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Since 1991, he creates environments from found objects, which he uses for his performances. Later he was increasingly drawn to the medium of film. In 1999, Bock participated in the Venice Biennale, an in 2002 in the Documenta 11 in Kassel. From 2004 onwards, he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe as a professor for sculpture. Today, John Bock lives and works in Berlin. His works are in the collections of the MoMA in New York, the Castello di Rivoli in Turin, and the Center for Contemporary Art in Kitakyushu, Japan. John Bock is represented by Anton Kern Gallery in New York, and Regen Projects, Los Angeles.
