Sheraton Dining Table and Caned Side ChairsÂ
American (possibly Connecticut), ca 1820. A Sheraton dining table and an assembled set of six maple side chairs with caned seats and two upholstered armchairs in maple, the table comprising two single leaf "D"-shaped ends modernized to form a dining table, with boldly turned legs, the side chairs with scrolled crests, vasiform splats and caned seats, on tapering cylindrical turned legs with button feet, table includes three additional leaves; table ht. 28.5, wd. 72, dp. 41.5 in., leaves 12 in., chair oah. 34.25 in.
A letter included with this lot, dated 1931 from Whitlock's Book Store in New Haven, Connecticut and addressed to Mr. Gordon Reis, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, states that the tables were acquired by the bookstore in Atlanta, Georgia. The letter says it is likely the tables were moved to Atlanta from Connecticut around 1850. The Reis' purchased the tables from Whitlock's on their honeymoon.

Chairs not a match to tables. Missing center table. Armchairs are not a match to the side chairs and are later.
