A rare Charles Drecoll purple faille walking suit, circa 1911-14, labelled 'Ch Drecoll, Vienna & Paris', the jacket faced in lilac silk, also with silver braid to the cuffs, weighted rectangular tail to the back with button detailing, buttoned faux pockets to the sides, barrel-shaped ankle-length hobble skirt with broad petersham inner waistband, bust 86cm, 34in, waist 71cm, 28in; together with an embroidered tulle blouse; and a linen bodice adorned with frogging and crochet lace c.1912-14 (4) Provenance: Olga Popoff a Russian-born sculptress (1883-1959). She was born in St Petersburg and studied sculpture there and in Paris at the time of the Russian revolution. She emigrated again to Long Island New York in the 1920s.

• Jacket – purple silk on collar has split along edge of opening but badly split along the neck areas. Buttons on left side of waist – slight rubbing to 3 of the 5. One button slightly flattened rather than domed. Buttons on right side 0 2 with slight rubbing to the silk. Large waist button centre front – silk is slightly rubbed and buttonhole is frayed. Tarnishing to gold braid on cuffs and slight fraying to cuff edges. Perspiration stains to lining at underarms. Centre back between shoulders and waist above weighted tails. Satin has perished at underarms also. Corresponding exterior areas are generally good – a few small splits at underarms. • Skirt – faint bleach marks to front right side where a stain was dabbed at. Small hole to rear left side. Ivory silk petticoat/lining is badly stained and split. Two small slightly frayed areas below front waistband. Lacking a prestud fastener to rear closure.
