Kazumi’s artist statement is as follows: ‘In my work I use imaginary half-man, half-beast creatures in scenes vaguely reminiscent of something you have seen before. I depict a hazy world of chaotic memories where reality and fantasy intersect, where the past and the present co-exist.’ Alice Chappell of the former Chappell Gallery described his process ‘Kazumi creates his work by blowing layers of powdered glass enamel onto the surface of the vessel, one color at a time. Once the layer is on, his uses a subtractive method whereby he eliminates what he does not want. After firing he repeats this process several times.’” Signed by the artist.
