Description
A great jade cane of a songbird. The light green jade handle is 2 3/4” high and 4 1/4” long. It is fashioned as a stylized, perched songbird with detailed feathering and a round loop at its breast for a hanging cord. It is pierced with a hole at its base to accommodate a green silk wrist cord with a large tassel. (The wrist cord appears to be a newer replacement.) There is a 1 1/2” silver collar decorated with a burst of “C” scrolls on a textured background. Additionally, there is a fancy shield cartouche that is inscribed: “S. Parkinson”, and: “Colne”, for the English City. The shaft is malacca that ends with a 2 1/8” burnished brass ferrule with a pointed iron end for avoiding slippage on icy terrain. The overall length is 36 1/2” and the condition is very good. It is ca 1900, and it is from the Vertical Art Collection™. Per the consignor, the proceeds are to benefit the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Estimate: $2000-$3000
