Description
A cut and welded sheet iron abstract sculpture attributed to Bill Bagley,a memeber of the Emporia State (Kansas) Art faculty during the 1960s. No signature can be found. Measures 96 inches in height (80 inches without concrete base), 30 inch width, 53.5 inches deep. This work was purchased directly from the artist in 1968 by Edward R. Lewis, Professor of Art, Central Missouri State University, 1962 - 1979. According to his obituary, Bill Bagley was born Oct. 30, 1939, in Henryetta, Okla. He was an associate professor of art at Texas Tech. He graduated high school in Henryetta and attended the University of Kansas, where he graduated with a master of fine art degree in sculpture. He received a bachelor's degree in visual arts from Phillips University. He did post-graduate work and studied sculpture at the School of Art and Architecture in Gandt, Belgium in 1972. In 1996 he received an honorary award from Emporia State University for development of a glass blowing program in 1969. In 1995 he was nominated for the Outstanding Faculty Member Award by Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society of Architecture and Allied Arts.
Condition
One of the pendants has been bent near its tip. The iron suspension ring that supports the horizontal hanging cross-member has worn through and will need repair for proper display.
