This Brass and Tin backed small clothing button measures 19 mm. The angled Brass Rim Face around the central portrait Ferrotype with bust image of Abraham Lincoln looking to his right. "A. LINCOLN" boldly displayed in black capital letters above his image. The image is clean and clear having good contrast, one small dark spot by his right cheek appears as made, and a couple of surface hairlines are noted. The back of this button is tin and has the typical wobble shank which remains fully intact. There is no back mark but has two depressed rings in the design. This button type is pictured and listed as Albert PC252 on pages 438-439 of Albert's “Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons, Bicentennial Edition.” In that reference Albert states that the Abraham Lincoln Portrait Ferrotype Photograph image comes from an original Brady photograph taken in 1864. Exceedingly Rare, missing in most collections and the very first of this type we have offered.
