This autographed and signed letter in French is written by the General Field Marshal Prince Eugene of Savoy, called "noble knight". He wrote to Madame d'Azevedo Jallet douairière in Mechelen because of a lagging payment. Vienna, 21.03.1722.
The letter is in fine condition with signs of use. The sheet was formerly folded and smoothed several times. The address field shows large thumb tear and is more soiled. There is no loss of text. In the edges lightly browned and wrinkled. Sheet size: 31.2 x 21.5 cm. Written script: 14 x 18 cm.
Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736)
Prince Eugen was born 1663 in Paris. He was one of the most famous generals of the House of Austria and main supporter of the great power of Austria within Europe. He was commander in chief from 1697 in the Great Turkish War and commander in chief of the anti-French allies during the Spanish War of Succession (1701-1714). After the resumption of the war against the Ottomans (1714-1718), he secured the Austrian domination in Eastern Europe. In addition to that, he was longtime president of the courtly council of war and diplomat. As building contractor and art collector, he was one of the most important patrons of his time.
