The heraldic illuminations is partly oxidized and rubbed. The seal with some supplemented marginal belmishes. Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria (1717-1780)

She was among the most influential monarchs of the era of enlightened absolutism. So she successfully gained the election and coronation of her husband Franz Stephan Roman-German Emperor in 1745 (and was, although not self-crowned, henceforth called Empress). After the death of her husband in 1765 her sons Joseph II and Leopold II followed as Holy Roman German Emperors. Without own power and without significant military or political talent, Maria Theresa’s husband Franz Stephan devoted himself primarily to the financial security of the imperial family – with which he was very successful. The government affairs were led by Maria Theresa alone. She had to face the War of Austrian Succession immediately after the commencement of the reign. Although she lost Silesia to Prussia, but managed to maintain all other Habsburg possessions. In economic policy she pursued a newer form of mercantilism.
