Frederick Augustus III. (1750-1827)

Frederick Augustus the Just was from 1763 elector as Friedrich August III. and in 1806 the first King of Saxony. In 1791 he arranged the "Declaration of Pillnitz" but did not sign it. He threatened - in agreement with Emperor Leopold II - with a military intervention against the French Revolution, thus giving France the opportunity to declare war on Austria in 1792. He participated neither in the 1792 concluded defense alliance between Austria and Prussia, nor in the founding of the Confederation of the Rhine. Left alone by the Prussians, Frederick had to enter an alliance with Napoleon in 1806 and as a result had Saxony occupied.
