Description
Lancaster, Pennsylvania painted poplar blanket chest, dated 1887, attributed to Henry Lapp, the till with a secret drawer, retaining its original red surface with faux grained drawers, the front initialed RL, 28 1/2'' h., 48'' w. For a similar example, see McCauley, Decorative Arts of the Amish, page 143.
Condition
Lacking 1/2 of escutcheon. 6" x 1/2" loss to one corner of drawer. 6" crack above center divider between drawers. An applied molding to back of lid detached. 24" loss to front of return base molding. Provenance: The Collection of The People’s Place, Good’s Enterprises, Intercourse, Pennsylvania.
