Description
A large Apulian Red-Figure Lekanis, Magnia Graecia, 4th Century BC, the lid decorated with a pair of ladies of fashion, opposite the central handle, their hair styled in Kekryphalos, wearing diadems and pendant earrings, floral elements in the field around them, large palm devices to either side of them. The edge of the lid with a wave pattern and the top of the handle is adorned with radiating lines within a central depression. H: 8 ¼ in (20.9 cm), W: 11 ½ in (19.2 cm). Restored. Ex English private collection.
