Description
An attractive 'Phurbu' or Magic Dagger from Nepal, Qing Dynasty, late 19th - early 20th Century, used in the Tsham Dances to exorcise demons. Of cast brass and cold chiseled, the piece has three heads of Hayagriva on one end of the handle, a triple blade on the other. A picket-type candle-holder has been brazed onto the top end. A Hayagriva is a female who scares demons. It is a fierce protective deity and one of the eight guardians of religious law. L: 10 ¼ in (26 cm).
