NELSON HORATIO: (1758-1805) British Admiral during the Napoleonic Wars, the victor of the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805. A.L.S., Nelson & Bronte, one page, 4to, Piccadilly, 8th February 1803, to Captain Longford. Nelson informs his correspondent 'I never saw Lord Hutchinson in my life which is a full answer to your applicn.' and adds that he 'should have been happy to oblige you if it had been in my power' before remarking 'Sir William & Lady Hamilton join in best compliments….' Some light overall browning and age toning and with some wear at the folds (professionally repaired to the verso), about G
General John Hely-Hutchinson (1757-1832) 2nd Earl of Donoughmore. Anglo-Irish Politician, Herditary Peer and Soldier. Created Baron Hutchinson in 1801. In March 1794 he obtained brevet promotion to Colonel, then became a Major-General in May 1796, a Lieutenant-General in September 1803, and a full General in June 1813. In 1811, he became Colonel of the 18th Regiment of Foot.
