Description
A signature pattern from this west coast fly tyer. Originally designed for winter steelhead it later was found to be effective on salmon. Mr. Pray was born in Michigan in 1885, he later moved to California in his early twenties. Started tying flies commercially in the 1930's and is best known for his steelhead patterns. Further information can be found in Joseph D. Bates' book, "Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing" and these patterns are on plate VIII, page 272.
This is a continuation of the Hendrickson/Davis/Sampson collection held in October, 2013. The consignor, Mrs. Sonni Hendrickson-Sampson has agreed to relinquish at auction only a small portion of this collection to the public so as to not hinder the fly collecting market. She has agreed to donate the remaining collection to the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum. Her father, Sam Hendrickson and her stepfather both had a special place in their hearts for this region and she feels that both these men would be satisfied with her decision. She would like to thank all of you who took the time to speak with her at the last auction and the interest you showed in her family's history.
