Description
Most likely this chest started its life for another purpose, possibly as a specimen cabinet and later traded careers to a higher calling as a fly cabinet. This early (circa 1870's-1880's) dove tail constructed box has two unusual lever locks on each side and is decorated with three fish on the front made of either ivory or bone. Measuring 11 1/2" x 10 1/4" x 8 1/2" the chest's drawers have varying depths of 2 of 7/16", 2 of 3/4", 1 of 2 1/2" and the inside lid at 1 1/2" making this a very functional and diverse fly chest. The cabinet contains a metal fly box of 40 trout flies, examples of Charles Krom and Keith Fulsher on their cards (one signed), an Otto Beck salmon fly brooch, 3 flies on card (2 signed by tier) from the Atlantic Salmon Federation. Other flies on printed cards from Percy Tackle Co., Smithcraft, H.A. Whittemore & Co., and L.L. Bean. Approx a total of 80 flies both loose and on cards. Most are streamer patterns with many tandem hook examples. Cabinet is Very Good. Flies are Good to Excellent.
