Frank Meanea was a nephew of E.L. Gallatin who was an early saddle maker of the 1850’s and 1860’s. Gallatin set up a saddle business in Cheyenne, Wyoming around 1868 and put Frank in charge of the saddle production.Gallatin established Frank’s brother, Theodore as a saddle tree maker in Pueblo, Colorado. Gallatin was one of the most celebrated makers in the west from 1860 when he opened in Denver until he sold out inCheyenne to his nephew Frank Meanea, with Frank then becoming the most popular saddlemaker of the late 1800's. E.L. Gallatin and Gallup Saddlery.The Frank Meanea Saddles were prized by the early cowboys as being one of the greatest available. Charles Russell (the famous Montana artist) owned a Meanea saddle, which is now in the Charles Russell Museum in GreatFalls, Montana.
