Gouache painting with colors and some gold on paper. India, Jaipur, 18th century
Partially very finely painted depiction showing surrounding architecture, the center painted with the high god Shiva and his spouse Parvati while offering a potion, both bejeweled and shown seated in a small yard on a lotus cushion under a protruding roof, a maid servant is approaching, the lower section presents two reserves, each rendered as an architectural element and painted with the white bull nandi (symbol of Shiva) and a lion, both animals with decorative bands. The painting is estimated to be dating to ca. 1770; exterior of border worn (can be easily covered by a passepartout), minor wear to the interior border, the center of good condition.
