J. & G. ALCOCK IRONSTONE POTTERY FLOW BLUE "SCINDE" PATTERN EWER AND BASIN, of molded dodecagonal-paneled form, the ewer with an elongated neck, both items with the pattern printed to the bodies, below the Asian geometric and foliate pattern border. Both with printed and impressed marks to undersides. The bowl printed with a rare retailer's mark: IMPORTED BY / HECTOR SEARS, /226. Greenwich Street, / NEW YORK. Circa 1840-1850. 11 3/8" HOA, 13 1/4" D.
Provenance: Collection of Joyce and the late Greg Prus, Plantsville, Connecticut.
Catalogue Note: Printed retailer's markings on wares of this period are rarely seen. Hector Sears are recorded as crockery dealers in the New York city directories for 1844-1849. In 1850, the firm is listed as Sears, Hector & Co., and by 1851 their address has changed to 238 Greenwich St.
