Description
Vincent Minnelli was brought to MGM by Arthur Freed in 1940. Coming from the design arena of the New York theatre, his creativity became an asset to the Freed unit. His first assignments were to assist director Busby Berkeley with the musical numbers for the Mickey and Judy films. He graduated to director in three years and was at the helm of the classic MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. Garland and Minnelli formed a creative bond that turned to romance. Minnelli would direct her next films, ZIEGFELD FOLLIES and the non-musical THE CLOCK. After many months, they married in June 1945. The famous MGM costume designer Irene had made the costumes for Judy's recent films and she was requested to design and make this dress for the simple wedding which took place in the garden of Judy's mothers' home.
