Egypt, New Kingdom - the height of the Egyptian empire! Dynasties 18 to 20, Ca 1570 to 1075 BCE. Extremely well preserved human head of a mummified individual, showing remnants of linen wrapping, tufts of hair, one ear and much facial skin still evident, small faience bead lodged in upper lip, six cervical vertebrae in place. Based on X-rays we have had taken, we believe this individual to be a male, aged 20 to 40, of the elite class, and no obvious signs of bad health. The provenance is almost as fascinating as the head itself. This was given to Dr. A. M. Drennan, Professor of Pathology at the Polish School of Medicine, University of Edinburgh at the close of the facility in 1949. Since it comes with a presentation case, one can only imagine this sitting on the desk of the good doctor. Measuring 8-1/2"L x 7"H, presentation case measures 10-7/8"L x 8-5/8"D x 9-1/8" H.
