Item Details
Description
Italy, Etruscan Culture, ca. 4th century BCE.. A large terracotta votive of a handsome young man, with wide almond shaped eyes, small lips, strong chin, forehead, and nose, as well as prominent ears, powerful neck, and spiked/rowed hair. This youth is draped in a pleated chiffon, with arms exposed on sides. Hollow interior with firing hole on rear. A votive example such as this would have been placed in a temple on behalf of an ailing young man, hoping for the healing results of their pious actions. Though faded now, this piece would have been slipped in a beautiful white paint over the red/pink clay. Custom stand. 12-1/2"H.
