Description
After the Beatles dissolution in the late 60s, rumors circulated for many years regarding a Beatles reunion tour, which never happened. The closest The Beatles ever came to a reunion was in the studio in England in 1994, 14 years after John Lennon's tragic death. As executor of the John Lennon estate, Yoko Ono released permission to Paul, George and Ringo for the use of a 1977 John Lennon vocal/piano recording. The three imagined that John was still alive as they laid in musical tracks to this recording, producing "Free as a Bird." This song was the major feature on The Beatles Anthology I, along with original Beatles unreleased recordings.
This cardboard record display for the Beatles Anthology I, issued by Apple Corps in 1995, was one of the items that Capitol Records used in its well-orchestrated promotion efforts for the Anthology series (documentary video, three CDs and an oversized book). It is an early 60s classic black and white photograph of The Beatles huddled around Ringo's drum. The bottom of the display reads: "Featuring 'Free as a Bird' The First New Beatles Song in 25 Years." Original cardboard box reads: "Open Immediately Beatles Display Enclosed." Display is mint. 24 x 24
