Description
Laszlo Ispanky (Hungarian-American, 1919-2010) bronze sculpture, "Let There Be Light", depicting a God-like figure placing the sun and moon over a chapter ring. Signed, dated '76 and numbered 15/25 on base. 20"H x 20"W x 12"D. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook) - Sir Laszlo Ispanky emigrated to the U.S. during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Soon after, he was awarded a Fellowship to the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Deerfield, Michigan to teach and study sculpting. He moved to New Jersey in early 1960 and became the master sculptor for Cybis Porcelains. He left in 1966 to start his own company. During his career he created numerous sculptures for official presentations to heads of state. "Let There Be Light" was commissioned by the Knights of Malta and presented to Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. Provenance: the collection of Stephen and Lisa Steiner Small, Nashville, Tennessee.
