Two Melcher Louisville KY stoneware jars. 1st item - Stamped Melcher jar, "2 Melcher Maker Louisville, KY" (2 denotes gallon capacity), lug handles with two incised lines around the upper shoulder of the jar. Height 12", Dia 8 3/4", 10.42 lbs. 19th century. 2nd item - Stamped Melcher Jar with Albany slip glaze, straight sided, marked "Melcher & Co. Manufacturer's Louisville, KY. Height 10 1/2", Dia 6", 6.17 lbs. 19th century.

Condition

Item 1 - Rim chips, in the making hairline near base, some discoloration of surface possibly due to grease. 2nd item - Overall excellent condition with remnants of an applied varnish over the glaze.
