Description
1st item: Bust length portrait of a gentleman in wig and formal attire, probably English, late 18th c.. 17 1/4" H x 22 1/4" W sight, 24 1/4" H x 29 1/4" W including shadow box frame. 2nd item: Antebellum portrait of young woman with shawl draped around her shoulder and a wall and drape shadow background. Probably American, 2nd quarter of the 19th century. 23" H x 29" W sight, 29 1/2" H x 35 3/4" w gilt carved frame.
Condition
1st item: old inpainting to lower half of face, possible later highlighting of coat edges, paint losses to face and background, older relining. 2nd item: overall very good condition with no inpainting/restoration detected, earlier relining. Carved frame has later gold painted surface.
