Veuve Perrin French Faience Jug and Box 

French (Marseille, France), ca 1765. A fine faience milk jug in polychrome decoration with floral sprays and a scene of a man and woman harvesting wheat, together with hinged, heart-shaped box, having a scene of a small lakeside castle, both pieces marked VP, for Veuve Perrin, the jug with an impressed 99; jug, ht. 6 in. Note: The Marseilles factory of Claude Perrin, who settled in Marseille in 1733 where he died in March, 1748. Pierette Candelot, widow of Claude Perrin took over the factory after her husband's death, where it became known as Veuve Perrin, and is sometimes referred to as 'Widow Perrin". The factory existed with various partners from 1748 to 1803. (see Campbell, Gordon. The Grove Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts: Two-volume Set:  Oxford University Press, 2006, pp. 87.)
