NATURAL FADEN QUARTZ CRYSTAL

This fascinating specimen is a natural crystal of "faden" quartz, a descriptive term for crystals with a thread-like zone running through the interior, from the German word for "thread". This is caused by breakage, healing and regrowth in the crystals, resulting in the entrapment of fluid and gaseous inclusions forming the visible "thread". This is a well-defined crystal growth of good translucence throughout, measuring approximately 14 x 5 3/4 x 5 inches and weighing 1.72 lb.
