Description
APOLLO 11, 1969, LUNAR PLAQUE AND FLOWN CM THERMAL COATING
This aluminum plaque, 2 7/8 x 2 1/2 inches, is an exact scale version of the 9 x 7 1/2 inch stainless steel plaque affixed by the Apollo XI astronauts to the ladder of their landing craft, the Eagle, and left on the Moon. It was made using the same photo-etching process as the lunar plaque, from the same master negative; no more than 200 of these were made, given to NASA employers. They remain extremely rare, and this one is presented with a 1 inch square piece of gold-colored Kapton foil from the Command Module of that flight, mounted under a thin layer of lucite, together with a letter from William R. Whipkey, Property Control, NASA (rtd) authenticating the provenance.
