Muonionalusta - Iron, fine (IVA) octahedrite

The Muonionalusta is the oldest known meteorite on Earth, and also one of the most aesthetic, but the present example has been further enhanced, fashioned into the uncanny form of a 2 3/4 inch cube, its surfaces etched all over to expose the interlocking lamellae of taenite and kamacite known as Widmanstätten patterns. It also boasts a feature sometimes found in these specimens, a particularly large inclusion of the extraterrestrial iron-sulphide troilite, approximately 2 inches long, making for a particularly striking and unusual display piece of 2700g.
