This morse telegraph has been used at the very beginning of communicating over distance. The messages could be sent and received via Morse code and could be recorded on a paper strip. This device was made by C. F. Lewert, a Berlin manufacturer of telegraphs, in 1880. The brass device is mounted on a flat mahogany box with a drawer for the paper-roll. There is a mahogany and brass morse key as well.
The piece is marked with ‘C.F. Lewert Berlin No. 6074’. Its dimensions are 20 cm (height), 30 x 28 cm. The Morse key’s dimensions are 8.5 cm (height), 16.5 x 8.5 cm. Both pieces are in good condition with traces of age and usage. There is no guarantee on functionality. (afa)
