These two wonderful porcelain jars were produced in Paris, France in the 19th Century. They each show two different romantic scenes on a bleu celeste ground, in which a male figure makes advances at a female with the help of musical instruments. The lids are decorated with lavish, hand painted floral still lifes and rococo style gilded frames surround the different scenes. The gilded handles of the lids are in the shape of apples. Each jar is marked with a maker’s mark on the base.
These two porcelain jars are in good condition. One of the lids shows a fine hairline crack from the knob to the edge of the lid. The gilding has partly faded. Both jars bear a maker’s mark on the base. The diameter of each is approximately 9 cm and the height ca. 12 cm. They come with fitting ebonized wood pedestals.
