A Chaika is a luxury automobile from the Soviet Union made by GAZ, partly based on the Lincoln Continental. The vehicle is one step down from the ZIL limousine. As a limousine-class car, Chaikas were available only to the Soviet government, and could not be purchased by the average citizens. They were issued to top professionals, party officials, scientists, academics, and other VIPs. For their larger size and more powerful V8 engine, Chaikas were also favoured by the KGB. Nikita Khrushchev, although entitled to a ZIL, was known to prefer Chaikas, and kept an M13 at his summer dacha. A total of 3179 M13s were made. In 1988 Gorbachev curiously ordered all the blueprints for Chaika destroyed; a revival was attempted in 1996, but it was commercially too costly to reverse engineer the car.
The car has been completely renovated and refurbished in 2004 and is ready for use; some cosmetic touchups might be necessary. Due to its limited production number, there are very few Chaikas left in such great condition.
